Resource to share with your parents: How do you want your children to behave?

Resource for parents - child behaviourBy Ruth Edensor, Child Behaviour Consultant

As childcare practitioners, I’m sure that you all want the very best for each individual child that comes into your care and that you find it very satisfying to see the children grow and flourish in all areas of development, ready to move onto the next class well prepared and confident.

However, this is not always the case and sometimes a child’s lack of confidence, inattentiveness and disruptive behaviour may be holding them back. If you’ve noticed any parents requesting practical advice on improving their child’s behaviour, the ‘Parent’s Guide to Children’s Behaviour’ programme can help.

The guide helps parents understand true causes behind unwanted child behaviour and influences parent’s to implement positive improvements that create happier, more confident behaviour in their children.

The four essential areas included are;

1. Exactly why children behave the way that they do, that focuses on doing things that will improve their children’s behaviour and stop them doing the things that make it worse.
2. How to nurture their child’s spirit to help their child feel more positive and grow more confident.
3. How to handle unwanted behaviour including making a detailed plan of action using positive assertive consequences that are appropriate for their child’s age and stage of development and behaviour.
4. Looks at the bigger picture of family life and how the family dynamics and wellbeing affects their children’s behaviour and how to reduce the stress levels in the home.

Ruth has kindly provided a free parenting resource related to the course, for you to share with your parents. You can also download a free poster that can be displayed to parents in your setting.
