Creative Valentine’s Day activity for the children

Valentines Day Childcare ResourceGet creative with the children on Valentine’s Day by using this step-by-step resource from Creative Steps magazine which encourages co-ordination and exploration of materials.

Simply get the paint and paper out for little ones to make these simple but adorable cards for Valentines Day.

All you need for this activity is;

Sheets of thin red card
White paper
Red paint & brush
Pencil & scissors
Glue stick
Fine black felt-tip pen

Step-by-step guide;

1. To start, fold a piece of thin red card in half to make a blank greetings card.

2. On a piece of white paper draw a heart. To make your heart symmetrical, draw half a heart on one side of a folded piece of paper. Cut it out and open up to reveal a full heart shape.

3. Draw around this shape onto a fresh piece of paper. Then put some red paint into a small bowl. Children can either dip their index fingers into the paint or paint their fingers with a brush.

4. Encourage the children to make pairs of fingerprints onto the white heart, positioning each print at a slight angle. When the heart is dry, stick it onto the red cards.

5. To finish, outline some of the hearts, just off centre, using a thin black felt-tip pen.

All done! Now the children can give their cards to their parents next monday!
