Debbie, Operations Manager at Poppets Nursery, wanted to share the success story of how her setting has improved since it was taken over two years ago:
In November 2014 Jude and David Bessell, owners of Poppets Nursery in Fyfield, Essex, bought their local setting with a vision to make things better.
At that time the nursery was looking tired and the practice had slipped to an OFSTED rating of ‘Requires Improvement’. Since then, the new owners have transformed the setting. The 3 children’s rooms now have themes; the ‘Babes in the Wood Room’, for example, has a huge painted oak tree on one wall complete with friendly door and windows in the trunk with branches weaving their way around the walls.
“It has been important to us to make the rooms as welcoming and interesting as possible for the children. We feel you can be more creative than plain walls and still leave plenty of room for the children to put up their own work. We are hugely pleased with the results and both the children and the parents love the changes.”
They have also worked with staff to bring practices up to scratch and now feel that they have brought together a team that will produce an ‘outstanding’ nursery in the future.
“We appreciate that Rome wasn’t built in a day and it will take time to realise our goal but we have reached an important milestone by achieving a strong ‘Good’ assessment across the board from OFSTED in February, a massive step up from taking over.”
One of the many positive quotes from the report read:
“Staff provide a stimulating, well resourced environment that covers the 7 areas of learning. Children develop high levels of imagination and self esteem. They have free access to an extensive range of resources, indoors and outside, that helps to promote children’s enthusiasm to learn.”
Jude and David commented:
“This result is testament to all the investment in time and energy put in by the staff here over the last year and their dedication to provide the best possible service to the children. We are hugely grateful for their enthusiasm and drive and this report will spur us on to achieve hopefully ‘OFSTED Outstanding’ next time.”
