Unions have say on inspections

Unison and the Public and Commercial Services Union are in negotiations with the suppliers vying to run Ofsted's early years inspections.

In a meeting last week, the unions set out their demands should the inspections be outsourced. Jon Richards, senior national officer for education and children's services at Unison, said the unions want to work in partnership with providers but that there were concerns about any future staff transfer.

He said: "We are seeking to ensure all staff remain in direct employment, have a final benefit pension scheme and that their terms and conditions are not cut away."
