Steve and Maya McCormack lost their baby girl Laila to a rare genetic disorder called Aicardi syndrome in March 2011 the day before she turned one.

After her original diagnosis Steve and Maya started fundraising in a bid to raise funds to open a nursery to provide care for children with serious and complex conditions.

Having achieved their target of £165,000 the nursery on Kirkby Road in Hemsworth will officially open on Sunday 31 August.

Maya McCormack, now a mother to baby boy Rueben said;

“The nursery is a lasting memory of Laila and it is lovely that we have managed to get something positive from our awful experience.”

“It is helping to keep her memory alive for us and for our son Reuben, who will see as he grows up that we have done this for his big sister.”

“We are also helping other parents in a similar position to us.”
