Beverley Taylor-Carson , of Mother Goose Corner Nursery, wanted to share the fantastic news that her setting recently won a regional award for their in-house training and development:
“We are a family-run nursery in the heart of Huntingdon, offering a wide variety of extra-curricular activities which include French classes and swimming sessions. Valerie, our Proprietor, has led the setting for some 17 years now.
“The training we do at our nursery exists on several interwoven layers and includes an in-depth induction programme spread over every team member’s first six months. This is supported by a buddy system, as well as basic and advanced training modules offered both in-house and out-of-house.
“We also carry out monthly/annual appraisals where the focus is on a genuine two-way dialogue, self-evaluation and reflection.
“In addition to this, we train together every month as a team and have covered many different topics including ‘Understanding Autism’, ‘The Developing Child’s Brain’, ‘Using Music to Support Speaking and Listening Skills’ and ‘Schemas’.
Fighting off the competition
“The award was given as one of the categories within the Huntingdonshire Business Awards, and we fought off two other businesses within the region to be announced the winner. The awards ceremony was held on Friday 31st October in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire.
“It’s only right to go above and beyond industry standards in order to ensure our team are as well-equipped and well-trained as possible when caring for our precious little ones.
“When you are working with children, you have to do your absolute best for them. We want quality people teaching and developing the young minds in our care, who also want to develop their own knowledge as a part of their own professional journey.
“In order to do this, we aim to develop our team members beyond what is a basic requirement.”
