Little Acorns Day Care Nursery is a private setting situated in the community of Maesteg in Bridgend. The setting has almost doubled in size since the managers, Sarah and Leigh-Ann, took over the purpose-built facility in 2006 and now has a 57 child capacity.
The setting operates daily, Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am and 6pm. The setting is able to accommodate care and education for children from aged 6wks to 5 years, and wrap around care for children up to the age of 11 years during Breakfast, After School and Out of School Clubs.
The indoor play environments are extensively resourced and are able to meet all children’s requirements. The four outdoor play areas are also expansive, offering experiences of equal priority.
The setting was inspected over a two day period on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th November 2014 by ESTYN Inspector Janet Marsden. We received two judgements of ‘Excellent’ which demonstrates “Many strengths, including significant examples of sector-leading practice”. These were identified in Key Question 2: How good is provision? Learning Experiences and Learning Environment. This has also led into the setting being asked to write a “case study” for other settings awaiting their inspections. We have also received a letter of commendation from the Welsh Assembly for our report.
As a setting, we have always prided ourselves on our home from home environment and the excellent relationships, not only amongst the team but also with the families of the children who implicitly trust us with their children. This was evident to our ESTYN inspector who commended us for the outstanding feedback provided by the parents spoken to on the day of inspection. The inspector also commended us for our impressive team work and the clear vision set out by the managers of the setting. This just reinforces the strong family ethos we embed here at Little Acorns.
We would like to extend a massive thank you to our team and our families for all the hard work and support shown to the nursery over the years.
