An award-winning nursery in Colmworth, Bedfordshire celebrated its first birthday last week.
Puddleducks nursery encourages children to grow their own food and is the first nursery in Bedfordshire to have been approved by the Children’s Food Trust.
The nursery has also won several national awards such as the Silver Food for Life Catering Mark by the Soil Association and a Nursery World award.
At the first birthday celebration tea, the children held a fancy dress competition, played traditional party games and were join by the ‘Toad’ mascot of the nursery, along with Bedford mayor Dave Hodgson.
Nursery manager Emma Parker said, “Nutrition is really important to us and we reinforce this with our children and families through our cook and grow initiative.
“We involve all of our children and families in growing a range of fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers in our allotment, which is then prepared and cooked by our children.”
