We spoke to Parenta’s Digital Team Leader, Sam Davey, to get her advice on how important it is for childcare settings to have their own website. Sam has worked closely with our customers over the past 4 years to help them successfully build their online presence. What are the main benefits of having a childcare website?

Having a childcare website is so important for your business. Customers are now turning to search engines such as Google to find local businesses, so without a website you’re missing a large percentage of your potential market! Search engines are heavily focusing on local results, so it’s imperative that you have web presence.

Can a website help strengthen relationships with parents?

A website is a great way to communicate with new and existing parents. We find that a lot of nurseries use their websites to communicate what's happening with a ‘parents’ page’. You can include newsletters, photo galleries, blogs etc to keep existing parents up to date and also give new parents a flavour of the care their child will receive throughout the rest of the site.

What advantage does having a website give settings over competitors who don’t have one?

By having a website, you’re already ahead of your competitors. Having online presence means that you can reach your audience 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. People tend to turn to the internet to look for information rather than enquire at the door, purely because it's more accessible!

Are there any data protection concerns with having a website?

You need to be aware that anyone can view your website from anywhere in the world and your parents need to be aware of this, too. I always suggest that you get permission from the parents to use their child’s image online. If you’re worried about doing this, we have plenty of stock imagery that you can use instead.

Are there any other surprising benefits of having an online presence?

Having a childcare website and driving visitors to your site means more potential sales. In fact, one of our customers has told us that she receives, on average, 65 enquiries a month from the website we built for her! Incredibly, each website enquiry can generate £50,000+ in revenue for your setting for every new child who starts as a baby and stays until school.

You can also drive more people to your site by consistently updating and promoting the information you have on it. Therefore, the more new content your site has, the greater the possibility of increasing your sales.
