Local MP Alan Mak has visited Tops Day Nurseries on Stockheath Lane, Havant to celebrate World Book Day and to hear about the upcoming introduction of 30 hours free childcare for all 3 and 4 year olds.
Children and staff at Tops Day Nurseries dressed up as their favourite characters, read books and acted out stories throughout the day.
Mr Mak MP was shown around the nursery by Cheryl and her staff. They discussed how the 30 hours free childcare for all 3 and 4 year olds would support more parents in Havant to find employment, as well as other issues of concern to nurseries in the area such as qualifications for staff and business rates.
Mr Mak MP said:
“It was great to spend time at a brilliant nursery in Havant and to meet the staff and children. It was wonderful to see how the nursery is nurturing the children and helping to give them a great start in life.
“I was pleased to be able to celebrate World Book Day with the children, who were all having a lot of fun reading and playing in their costumes.
“It is great news that 3 and 4 year old children in Havant will soon be able to receive 30-hours free childcare, and I was delighted to discuss with Cheryl how it will make it easier for parents to find employment and make work pay.”
Cheryl Hadland, founder of Tops Day Nurseries, said:
“I was delighted to host Alan at our Havant nursery and to show him our World Book Day celebrations and other great work we are doing to provide our children in Havant with a rich learning environment.
“I was pleased to discuss with Alan the 30 hour free childcare policy, as well as issues around staff qualifications and an upcoming rise in business rates.
“I look forward to working with our local MP to ensure all young children in Havant have the best possible life chances.”
