The Plumtree branch of Children 1st Day Nurseries is celebrating having reached the finals of a national awards ceremony.
The nursery, rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, is hoping to win the trophy in the ‘Indoor Learning Environment Award’ category. It was set up as a family business in 1988 and has branches in Long Eaton, Toton and Newark.
The award recognises excellence in childcare categories and celebrates those in the nursery sector.
Nursery manager Louise Bucknall said, “The Company has made a major investment in refurbishing the nursery inside and out to create such a creative learning environment.
“We know the high quality of the provision here makes our nursery an exciting place for the children to grow and learn and it’s a place where the children love to be.”
Before the nursery can win, the area manager Alice Houldsworth and nursery manager Louise Bucknall will be interviewed by three independent judges and they must share examples of how children benefit from their learning environment
The ceremony will be on 25 November at Hilton London Metropole Hotel and will be hosted by presenter, journalist and adventurer Ben Fogle.
There are six finalists from the UK who all hope to prove their nursery is a cut above the rest.
Ms Bucknall described how she was ‘proud’ of the opportunities for play at the nursery. She said how there are dedicated zones in the nursery for the children to do activities such as painting, junk modelling, role playing and construction, and that there was a ‘well-resourced’ indoor space.
