Last week, 3-year-old Liam managed to break free from his nursery in Ayrshire and walked half a mile back to his home along a main stretch of road.
Mum Sarra has spoken of how horrified she was when little Liam arrived home and burst into tears. She returned to the nursery with Liam in tow where she discovered staff weren’t even aware he had been missing.
It is believed that Liam was missed in a headcount at the nursery as he was playing with a colander, he then managed to walk through 2 sets of doors and out of the premises through an unlocked gate.
Speaking of Liam’s plight, Sarra said:
“It is about half-a-mile, or a 10-minute walk. It is a really busy road.
“There are buses, lorries and I don’t really want to think what could have happened.
“I heard a noise at my front door and it was my little boy crying his eyes out.”
By the time Sarra returned to the nursery with Liam, 20 minutes had passed. In response to the incident, council bosses have said security measures at the nursery will be improved to ensure nothing like this happens again.
