Press release from Little Adventurers Nursery & Preschool.
Healthy Havering Day Nursery with a Top Manager
Little Adventurers Nursery in Cranham is celebrating once again, after reaching the national shortlist of the Nursery World Awards for 2019*. The Little Adventurers team are delighted to be shortlisted as one of 6 nurseries across the UK for a health and well-being award to recognise their work supporting healthy lifestyles. They are enjoying a double celebration as their Nursery Manager Ginny Andreas has also reached the final shortlist for the U.K. Nursery Manager of the Year!
This home from home nursery is certainly a special place for children, their families and staff as recent awards can testify. Just 4 years old, this nursery is fast building an excellent reputation within the local community for supporting and promoting the health and well-being of all children who join their Little Adventurers family.
It is easy to see why staff, parents and colleagues all warm to Nursery Manager Ginny, who has an ability to both engage children in endless fun and discovery as well as model strong, effective practice for all her team. This individual setting in Cranham is built around Ginny’s ethos for early years education; she believes in cherishing each and every child; allowing flexible routines and encouraging all little ones to ‘have a voice’. This results in a nurturing of well-being, calm and joy, which is clear to see as you visit and walk around this first-class day nursery.
“Ginny is completely committed to early years education and believes that childhood should be full of adventure, fun and exploration”, explained Chris Ford, Business Development Manager. “You won’t find children sitting at tables here – instead tables will be upturned to make pirate ships, dens or buses! Or often they will be removed from the room altogether to give children maximum space for creative play. When our little ones leave us, we want them to have inquisitive minds and love learning for their onward educational journey. Ginny and her team truly put children at the heart every single day – I believe that is what makes us such a special nursery and parents can see this when they visit.”
For a great nursery, you need a great leader and Owner/ Director Lee Stimpson couldn’t be more pleased with his team. “I am absolutely delighted to have reached
the 2019 finals for the Nursery World Awards. With Ginny as a finalist for Nursery Manager of the Year – it’s pretty incredible for all of us who are on this journey together and it’s wonderful that Ginny is being recognised in this way. She has the ability to see life through the eyes of a child and is a constant inspiration at the setting.”
“We have a fantastic staff team and we encourage a whole team approach, involving everyone to have a voice with ideas for further development. We certainly never rest on our laurels but continue to focus on further developments to benefit all of our little ones,” Lee continued.
Little Adventurers has embedded healthy lifestyles in so many different ways within their setting in Upminster from their highly nutritious menus that are devised in consultation with their nutritionist to all young children being able to spend time with their siblings at the setting. Ginny believes in supporting children with flexible routines, just like they would at home; so little ones here help their key person with loading the washing or choosing their fruit at snack time for example. This encourages a nurturing of well-being – both mentally and emotionally, as well as supporting their learning with real experiences. The nursery supports lots of outdoor time and can be regularly seen out in the community; they are currently enjoying weekly Forest School sessions.
Little Adventurers are proud of their growing achievements and accolades, having already been awarded both a Bronze and Silver HEYL award from the Mayor of London for their project and ongoing work supporting oral hygiene. This year they have also been selected as a Top 20 London Nursery by Daynurseries.co.uk by parents at their setting.
Charlotte and Kerry, Deputy Manager’s at the setting commented about Ginny making the shortlist, “Ginny is a brilliant leader because she is so passionate about providing children with a rich childhood and this is shown everyday with her demeanour around the children, and the research she does to ensure our practice is always best practice. She is an excellent role model to us, as a busy manager she always makes time to put children’s needs first, spending time ‘borrowing them’ to play a game or so they can help to do jobs – reminding us that every child has individual preferences and doing all that she can to make sure our children are not ‘institutionalised’.
Nursery parent Donna, talks about her experience at Little Adventurers,
“From the very first ‘Hello’ when you open the front door to the very last ‘goodbye’ when you leave, I am very confident that Little Adventurers have my daughter’s best interest at the heart of their care for her. When she first joined, my daughter was very attached to me and very shy and so she cried every time I left her at the nursery. However, that didn’t last long as I watched each member of staff (whether she is in her room or not), really get to know her and carefully and sensitively encourage her to integrate with the children and make her feel at ease and comfortable. I absolutely love how her health and well-being are their priority – she is very happy at nursery and has developed into a very confident, sociable and happy little girl. There is so much for her to do that gives her plenty of opportunities to grow and develop so well at nursery. I love the fantastic range of activities they have on offer which keep my daughter fully engaged and happy throughout the day – both indoors and outdoors.”
