This craft was created to celebrate Mother Earth Day on the 22nd of April. We always encourage the children to spend as much time outside as possible, and this craft is perfect for that! Children can spend hours trying to find the best looking moss and wild plants. And they might even get lucky and find some amazing earth creatures! Just remember to teach children to be respectful and only take what they need

You will need:

You will need:

  • Plants – we used a shop bought plant, but you can use any plants you’d like. If you have enough time, you could get a cutting of an English Ivy and keep it in water until it sprouts roots. Another fantastic activity to do with the children!
  • Moss
  • Gravel
  • Stones
  • Compost
  • Plastic fishbowl – you could also use glass jars

Instructions:

Instructions:

  1. Start with filling the bowl with gravel, followed by compost.
  2. Pick a spot in your bowl where you would like your plants to grow, then carefully insert the plant in that spot.
  3. Use some more compost to secure the plant in place, then add moss on top of the compost.
  4. Add stones, or any decorative pieces you like. If children want, they can put one of their tiny toys in there. Imagine a T-Rex standing under the plants!
  5. You have now finished! Don’t forget to water it from time to time!
