Tops Day Nurseries, an award-winning sustainability driven nursery chain, have been celebrating vegetarian week by sharing their new vegetarian recipes with children and their families.
National Vegetarian Week is a week that encourages us, to put a spotlight on delicious vegetable-centred meals. To support this week Tops revealed their new range of vegetarian recipes, which are included in their new summer menu. Children, parents, and colleagues were all encouraged to try their new vegetarian-based meals and were educated on the positive impact they have on your health and the environment. Some of Tops Day Nurseries new vegetarian recipes include, vegan sausage rolls, curried lentil dahl, chicken bolognaise, macaroni and garlic bread and homemade cheese scones.
Tops believe in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible world for all, and they aim to achieve this through educating the children that attend their settings. Tops have made a number of company-wide, sustainable changes, including their famous no-added sugar menus that launched in 2016, but more recently their vegetarian meals, that were introduced last year. The multiple sustainable initiatives they have introduced, including their food planning, have contributed to them becoming first day nursery chain in the UK to achieve B Corp accreditation and were awarded a Queens Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development this year.
Peter Ttofis, Catering Manager at Tops said ‘It is so important to create a well-balanced and varied diet. By introducing vegetarian dishes into your diet, we can use a wide variety of foods and produce that help us ensure we are gaining all the nutrients we need. Vegetarian food can be really exciting and also allows us to use our creative sides as well as introducing children to a full spectrum of fruits and vegetables”.
