Press release from: Tops Day Nurseries
Tops Day Nurseries, an award-winning nursery chain with over 30 nurseries across the South and Southwest celebrated National Tree Day by partnering up with Ecologi, a company dedicated to ending the climate crisis by planting trees to keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C.
As part of Tops and Ecologi’s partnership, Tops pledges to plant 1 tree for every child that enrols in one of their nurseries which over the course of a year will amount to thousands of trees planted on behalf of their children.
In addition to this Tops also pledge to plant a tree for all their current colleagues and for every new colleague that joins the business. Currently there are almost 800 colleagues working for Tops Day Nurseries who will all join together in their own wood of trees. These trees will be planted in Madagascar, an island country in the Indian Ocean. The country is considered a biodiversity hotspot, and over 90% of its wildlife is found nowhere else on Earth. In recent years, vast areas of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed, displacing entire animal species and diminishing local people’s ability to farm and live on the land. Ecologi’s started supporting this project in 2021 and so far the community have already funded the planting of over 8.8 million tress, and with the potential of planting 38 million trees the journey has just begun.
Tops also planned a variety of activities on National Tree Day to help teach their children about climate change and how important it is to protect and plant more trees to help end the climate crisis.
Tops Day Nurseries were the first day nursery chain in the UK to achieve B Corp certification and as such all decisions take into consideration the environment and social impacts and governance is transparent and ethical, as verified by B. Corp. Tops were also recently awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, a prestigious award that has recognised Tops for their excellence in Sustainable Development and because they have provided inspiration and are genuinely driving change in the Early Years sector.
