UK Charity to Build New Nursery School in Uganda for Local Children
Hundreds of young children in rural Uganda who currently learn in temporary structures are set to benefit from a new purpose-built nursery school. Funded by the UK charity Parenta Trust, the new Early Childhood Development Centre in Nakapinyi Village will provide safe classrooms and a stable learning environment. This project is vital for ensuring children in Uganda receive a quality education from the very start.
Transforming Early Years Education in Nakapinyi, Uganda
The new nursery facility will serve the community surrounding St Stephen’s Nakapinyi Primary School. Currently, this school in Uganda educates 675 pupils, including 155 nursery-aged children. Many of these young learners are taught in temporary wooden structures with dusty floors. These buildings frequently flood during heavy rains, forcing the school to close and halting the progress of early education in this part of Uganda.
The new centre will provide purpose-built classrooms, sanitation facilities, and improved learning environments. This ensures children aged three to five in rural Uganda can begin their schooling in a safe and supportive setting. The project is delivered in partnership with Fields of Life, an international charity working to expand opportunity across East Africa and Uganda.
A Vision for Change in Uganda’s Schools
Dr Allan Presland, Founder of the Parenta Trust, said: “Every child deserves the best start in life. The community of Nakapinyi has an extraordinary commitment to education, but the youngest children in this region of Uganda must learn in facilities that simply aren’t safe. We are proud to create a permanent nursery school where children can thrive.”
Fundraising Success: From Maidstone to Uganda
The school is being fully funded by a generous donation from Barnaby Wynter, who has been fundraising for this specific Uganda project since 2019. The initiative began with the Parenta Trust Rally—a drive from Maidstone to Monaco in a car costing no more than £350. Through his companies, The Brand Bucket Company and The Entrepreneur Plan Company, Barnaby has inspired a campaign to transform lives in Uganda.
The construction of this nursery school forms part of Parenta Trust’s wider commitment to expanding educational opportunities across Uganda. Barnaby added, “Everyone involved believes in the importance of helping to transform the lives of generations of children through better facilities in Uganda.”
Investing in the Future of the Uganda Childcare Sector
The new centre will include three classrooms, a canteen, and latrine facilities. It will also support teachers in Uganda with the training and resources needed to deliver high-quality early years education. By investing in a child, Parenta Trust is investing in the future of the entire Uganda community.
