How do I achieve the qualification?
The EYE qualification (formerly NVQ Level 3 in Childcare) is made up of a number of units which are grouped under 4 themes. For each of these units, you will need to demonstrate your knowledge, understanding and practical skills.
The 4 Themes are:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Legislation, Frameworks and Professional Practice
- Play, Development and Learning for school readiness
- Professional Development
Please note, GCSE’s in Maths and English are a requirement of the course. You will also need ICF Functional Skills Level 2.
How will I be assessed?
You’ll be assessed through a mixture of ‘at home’ and ‘at work’ tasks. Before this happens, your assessor will talk with you to find out what learning style suits you best and tailor your assessments around it.
- Writing from personal experience
- Case studies on children
- Assignments asking you to describe/explain something
- Reflections on how you dealt with past events
- Observations by an assessor
- Professional discussions with your assessor
- Feedback from your colleagues
How long will the course take me to complete?
As with anything worthwhile, this childcare course requires you to dedicate some of your time to it. This can be up to 12 months, but afterwards you’ll have the fantastic feeling of becoming a professionally recognised Early Years Educator and set yourself up for a long and rewarding career.
