About The Guide
In 2019/20, there were just over 700,000 apprenticeships in place in England - with 322,500 apprenticeship starts and 146,900 apprenticeship achievements. There was an 18% decline in the 2nd quarter of 2020/21, due to the impact that the pandemic had on businesses - and on top of that, there has been a disproportionate negative impact on those starting apprenticeships who are aged under 19, and on those on intermediate level schemes. In 2021, the government was keen to see the number of apprenticeships being undertaken rise again and introduced the ‘recruitment incentive scheme’ to try and help with this, giving employers up to £4000 for each apprentice they recruit.
