Sandra Beale is a BBC STEM freelancer, author, and educator passionate about inspiring a love of science from the earliest years. With a background in psychology and a successful career as a copywriter in advertising, Sandra later turned her focus to early years STEM education.

Her journey began when she started running toddler and early years STEAM sessions for her son at just nine months old. What started as playful experiments quickly grew into a movement, with other parents amazed at how young children could actively engage in hands-on science.

Sandra is the author of 50 Fantastic Ideas for STEM Activities (Bloomsbury) and has been featured on BBC, BBC Tiny Happy People, BBC Radio, BBC Breakfast, Early Years TV, and in numerous national and local publications. She was also nominated for STEM Initiative of the Year at the Cambridge Science & Technology Awards (2023).

As a BBC STEM freelancer, she has delivered workshops as part of BBC’s STEM season for four years. She has also led toddler and early years STEM sessions at the Cambridge Science Centre, Saffron Walden Museum, schools, nurseries, libraries, and even a local French restaurant!

Beyond education, Sandra has a creative background as an award-winning experimental filmmaker. She is also a dedicated fundraiser, supporting BBC Children in Need through her STEM sessions since 2020.

Her sessions, held regularly in Saffron Walden and beyond, bring science to life for young children and their families, fostering curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.
