Staff must be at least 17 years old. There are some exceptions for staff studying an apprenticeship, who can be 16 as long as they are considered responsible and capable. The main thing to remember is that staff must be suitable for the role they are doing. Childminders must have a letter of suitability from Ofsted and other early years settings must carry out their own checks for suitability at the recruitment stage.
